FAQ

1. Why is the service free of charge?
We do believe people need to have an alternative whenever possible. We do know there are some websites doffering this kind of service for some fee. So, this is our alternative to the services you know. We do not charge you anything for using our service, neither do we have any advertisement of any kind within our website or our app. But we would welcome any donations, event the smallest ones, that would show us that all we do is not in vain.

2. How long will the free period last?
Forever. Another possible answer is “until we have donations/money and enthusiasm to run the server and pay for the domain name”. So, basically, this depends on both our users and us. Hope you see that magic button to the right. With the help of it you can show us your appretiation. Though this step is not obligatory, but rather a good-will one.

3. Are there any restrictions when using your service?
Basically, we do have only a couple of them. Number one is that we do not have unlimited traffic or our server. Please DO NOT STREAM content when on VPN. No Netflix, Youtube, Hulu or stuff like that, please. We do not charge anything for this service, just ask you to respect us and follow our recommendations. Number two is that we ask you not to stay connected for hours. This is completely unnecessary in day-to-day use of our service. When this is spotted repeatedly, the VPN server will be switched off for some time, which would cause unavailability of the service to people around the world that use it like you do. This will definitely influence your karma, too, as they will not be happy with server unavailability because of some person out there.

4. What BB10 powered phones are supported?
Generally, all of them are. It is better to have OS 10.2.1 with the up-to-date android runtime to be able to download the client app OTA. Since the realease made on 28 September 2014 the Sideload.it client app supports 1:1 screens (all the Q devices, and the BlackBerry Passport should be no exclusion).

5. I still don’t get what I shall put into those fields in the client app. Can you explain step by step?
For server name, you put “sideload.it”
For device IP address you take (presumably) no action. The feature of automatic detection of your VPN connection IP address has been already implemented, so you just need to make sure the one offered in that field is the actual one you have in your “About > Network” menu section. If it is not, please let us know here.
For development mode password, put the password you entered when activating development mode earlier.

6. It seems I have done everything correct, but the app won’t install for several minutes. What am I missing?
First of all, make sure you activated development mode. With it being not activated the OTA installation of *.bar files will not be successful.

7. When I run the app, it shows me a dialog and says I am not on VPN. What shall I do?
If you are on a BB10 device, you will definitely need VPN to be connected before you run the client application. Without connection to the VPN server you will not be able to sideload *.bar files remotely. Also, if you connect to it after running the client app, you will have to manually iput the IP address (generally, the previous saved value for this is put into the proper field). So, to avoid hassle with this, just remember to connect to VPN and run the app after this.
Yet, in case you use the app on Android, just hit the proper button and continue. You will be able to remotely install apps to any BlackBerry 10 phone you have access to. No VPN on Adnroid is needed for this, yet the target BB10 device has to be connected to the proper VPN server.
